Amid the deepening political crisis in Bangladesh, the five parties convened an emergency meeting on Wednesday night (22 May) at Islami Andolan’s central office in Purana Paltan, Dhaka. The meeting was called by Islami Andolan’s Amir, Mufti Syed Mohammad Rezaul Karim, also known as Charmonai Pir.
According to a press release, senior leaders from the NCP, Islami Andolan, Gono Adhikar Parishad, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, and the AB Party were present at the gathering.
During the discussions, the leaders expressed unanimous support for the formation of a Yunus-led interim government, stressing the urgent need for political and institutional reforms to ensure credible national elections. The alliance highlighted that such a transitional administration would help restore public trust in the electoral process and stabilize the political landscape.
The coalition also issued a call for unity among what it described as "anti-fascist forces" and cautioned against any plots that could jeopardize Bangladesh’s sovereignty, independence, or national stability.
In a show of further support, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman endorsed the initiative through a phone call, signaling broader consensus among opposition groups.
Those present at the meeting included Gono Adhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur; Islami Andolan Secretary General Maulana Yunus Ahmed; AB Party Secretary General Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuad; Khelafat Majlis Secretary General Maulana Jalal Uddin Ahmad; NCP Senior Joint Convener Ariful Islam Adib; and several other senior leaders and clerics from the participating parties.
The alliance concluded with a pledge to pursue a peaceful and strategic path to national reconciliation and democratic transition.
