Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus has emphasised the need to establish equality, justice, and peace in society, marking the solemn occasion of Holy Ashura. He also expressed his heartfelt wishes for the unity, solidarity, and continued progress of the Muslim Ummah.

In his message, Prof Yunus paid tribute to the valiant stand taken by Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions, who sacrificed their lives at Karbala in defence of truth and justice. “This supreme sacrifice will remain a lasting inspiration for humanity to resist oppression and uphold righteousness,” he said.

Ashura, observed on the 10th of Muharram, commemorates the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the beloved grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He, along with his family and 72 followers, was martyred in 61 AH in the desert of Karbala while confronting the forces of Yazid to uphold the true values of Islam.

“On this sacred day, I pay my deepest respects to Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and all the martyrs of Karbala,” the Chief Adviser said. He described Islam as a religion rooted in truth, justice, and peace, values that were exemplified by the Karbala tragedy.

He also underscored the religious significance of Ashura beyond the tragedy, noting its status as one of the most virtuous days in Islamic tradition. Citing Hadith, he mentioned that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) recommended fasting on Ashura, preferably for two days, as an act of devotion.

“Let us embrace the spirit of Ashura, deepen our faith, perform good deeds, and seek closeness to Almighty Allah,” he urged.

Ashura will be observed across the country on Sunday with religious solemnity. The day is also a public holiday.
