The Australian High Commission in Dhaka today acknowledged the significance of August 5, marking the anniversary of the student-led mass movement in Bangladesh, and reaffirmed its support for the country's democratic transition.

"We remember those who died or were injured during last year's civil unrest," the High Commission said in a statement posted on its official Facebook page.

The mission further noted, "We support Bangladesh as it moves towards free, fair and participatory elections."

The message comes as several diplomatic missions in Dhaka, including those of the UK, EU, Germany, France, and Canada, issued statements on the anniversary, recalling the events of July-August 2024 that led to the formation of the current interim government, reports BSS.
