Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad on Tuesday expressed hope that both the ruling and opposition parties will work together to present a budget, which will bring more comfort to people’s lives.
“The ruling party presents the budget while the opposition criticises it. We welcome constructive criticism. I will ensure that the opposition gets adequate time to perform its duties,” he said while speaking to journalists at the Bhola Circuit House in the afternoon.
The Speaker added that a spirit of cooperation between the ruling and opposition camps is essential in parliamentary democracy.
“I have observed cooperation between the treasury bench and opposition MPs in the previous parliament session, and I hope it will continue in the budget session as well. Together, they can present a budget that brings more comfort to people’s lives,” he said.
Expressing optimism about the current Parliament, Hafiz Uddin said it has so far been able to meet public expectations and will play an even better role in the coming days.
“The people of the country have expectations from this Parliament, and I hope all members will take initiatives to fulfil those aspirations,” he added.
The Speaker arrived in Bhola on a five-day tour on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha. He made a brief stopover at the Circuit House before heading to his constituency in Lalmohan.
