Bangladesh and Belgium have discussed ways to capitalise on renewed political momentum to deepen bilateral cooperation, particularly in research and innovation, for the mutual benefit of the two friendly countries.

Bangladesh Ambassador to Belgium Masudul Alam held separate meetings on May 26 with William Asselborn, Director for Asia and Oceania at the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Marc Lemaître, Director-General for Research and Innovation of the European Union (EU), according to the Bangladesh Mission in Brussels.

During the meeting with Asselborn, the two sides reviewed issues of mutual interest and discussed the future course of bilateral engagement, as relations between Bangladesh and Belgium continue to deepen steadily.

The embassy noted that the recent visit of Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman to Belgium and his meeting with Belgium’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister injected new momentum into the growing partnership between the two countries.

In a separate meeting, Ambassador Alam held fruitful discussions with EU Director-General Marc Lemaître to enhance Bangladesh’s research collaboration with the European Union, which hosts one of the world’s largest research and innovation platforms.

The discussions focused on expanding cooperation in research, innovation and knowledge-sharing initiatives between Bangladesh and the EU, reports BSS.
