The deceased was identified as Asia Akter Mim, 26, a first-year master's student at Siddheshwari University College in the capital.
Victim’s husband Imamul Islam, who owns a rickshaw garage, said they married about a month ago. He said he had been away from home overseeing construction work on a new house and returned in the afternoon.
Failing to find his wife downstairs, he went to the upper floor where he found a room locked from the inside.
Receiving no response despite repeated calls, he broke open the door and found her hanging from the ceiling fan around 5:00pm, Imamul said.
She was rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 6pm, where doctors declared her dead, reports UNB.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, said the body has been kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Police said they were looking into the incident.
