Youth commits suicide for not getting money to buy smartphone

Patuakhali: A 22-year-old youth named Shakil Gazi committed suicide due to pride after not getting money from his mother to buy a smart phone in Kalapara, Patuakhali. The incident took place at around 2:30 am on Thursday at the youth's own house in West Chakamiya village of Chakamiya UP of the upazila. The deceased youth Shakil Gazi is the son of Shah Alam Gazi of that village.

The deceased's father Shah Alam Gazi said, my son is married so I bought him an easy bike. But he did not operate it properly. He used to beat his wife in the opposite house. On the day of the incident, after dinner, he asked his mother for a smart phone. But since she did not have money, he went to his own room and sat in a state of pride.

But when I went out to respond to the call of nature, I saw Shakil hanging from a mango tree behind the house. He said he did this out of pride after not getting the phone money.

Kalapara Police Station OC (Investigation) Md. Elias Talukder said that after receiving information in the early hours of the morning, the body was recovered and brought to the police station. Later, the body was sent to the morgue. Further legal action will be taken. - - Gofran Palash
