Motorists can use the Dhaka Elevated Expressway without paying tolls for six hours on Saturday (November 7) to mark National Revolution and Solidarity Day.

The Bangladesh Bridge Authority confirmed the decision in a press release, announcing that vehicles using the expressway will be exempt from tolls from 6am to noon.

Regular toll collection will resume at the usual rates after 12pm, according to the notice.

The existing toll rates are Tk 80 for cars, taxis, SUVs, microbuses with fewer than 16 seats and light trucks weighing less than three tonnes. Buses with 16 or more seats are charged Tk 160, medium trucks with up to six wheels Tk 320, and heavy trucks with more than six wheels Tk 400.

Three-wheeled and two-wheeled vehicles, including rickshaws, motorcycles and CNG-powered auto-rickshaws, are prohibited from using the expressway.

The 19.73-kilometre Dhaka Elevated Expressway project is being implemented under a public-private partnership (PPP).

In September 2023, the section from Kawla near the airport to the FDC area was opened to traffic. This is currently the operational section of the expressway.

Under the original plan, the expressway is expected to extend from Kawla through Tejgaon, Moghbazar and Kamalapur to Kutubkhali in Jatrabari. However, construction of the full route has not yet been completed.
