Parts of Dhaka waterlogged after evening showers
Intense rainfall on Tuesday evening led to waterlogging in some parts of Dhaka, causing immense suffering for commuters.
Streets in areas such as Mouchak, Malibagh, Shantinagar, Moghbazar, Dainik Bangla Intersection, and Kakrail were submerged, forcing residents to wade through water while trying to reach their destinations.
As the rains increased in the evening, homebound people from offices faced severe inconvenience to reach destinations.
Besides, those venturing out for urgent needs experienced heavy traffic jams and long waits for public transport.
The rain also affected private vehicles and CNG-run autorickshaws on main roads, worsening the situation. In some areas, rickshaw-pullers took advantage of the waterlogged streets and congestion by charging higher fares.
Rudro Rahman, a private job holder, told UNB that it took around an hour to reach Abul Hotel from Shantinagar by his private car though it normally takes around 10 minutes.
Like him, many people faced the same experience due to the waterlogging induced by the heavy rainfall.
Tariful Newaz Kabir, meteorologist of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), said they recorded 68 millimeter rainfall for the past six hours till 6pm on Tuesday, reports UNB.
He also forecast that Dhaka may experience another spell of rain early Wednesday.
