BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said the party does not pursue politics of revenge and does not intend to file harassment cases like the fallen fascist Awami League (AL).

He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a view exchange meeting held at Shapla Government Primary School ground in Mohammadpur Union under Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila.

Fakhrul said, "Desh Netri Begum Khaleda Zia said on August 5 last year - we do not seek revenge; we want peace, prosperity, and a developed Bangladesh. We want to move forward on that path."

He added, "Sheikh Hasina should know that people cannot be subdued through oppression, torture, or intimidation. It was not possible in the past, and it will not be possible in the future. Rather, she should apologize now by taking the responsibility of mass killings and atrocities."

The BNP Secretary General accused some parties of coercing the people in the name of PR system.

He said, "The new tricks that are being given to take away the people's voting rights are basically a conspiracy to destroy democracy."

Fakhrul said that holding the national referendum and parliamentary elections on the same day would allow citizens to express their opinions freely and BNP supports such an arrangement.

The meeting was presided over by former district BNP vice president Md. Al Mamun Alam, with the participation of district BNP president Mirza Faisal Amin, general secretary Md. Poigam Ali and other party leaders and activists, reports BSS.
