Former education minister and former MP Dr Dipu Moni has been released on 12-hour parole following the death of her husband, Barrister Toufiq Nawaz.

She was released from Munshiganj District Jail at around 6:15am on Thursday under tight police security and taken to her residence in Dhaka’s Kalabagan.

Her parole will remain in effect until 6pm.

Toufiq Nawaz, 76, died at a private hospital in Dhaka on Tuesday night while undergoing treatment.

Dipu Moni is expected to attend her husband’s funeral prayer and burial during the parole period.

Jail authorities said she will be taken back to the prison after the 12-hour parole expires.
