Mojtaba Khamenei delivered his first televised address after being appointed Iran’s supreme leader, warning Israel and the United States that Iran would continue its fight.

In the address on Thursday, he said Iran would avenge the blood of those killed in the conflict. “We will take revenge for the blood of our martyrs,” he said.

Khamenei also praised the country’s armed forces, saying they had protected Iran from subjugation or division during the recent attacks.

“I want to thank the brave fighters who are performing remarkably at a time when our country is under pressure and facing aggression,” he said.

He also commented on the global energy situation, declaring that the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed as part of Iran’s strategy.

Calling for national unity, the new supreme leader said keeping the vital shipping route closed would increase pressure on Iran’s enemies.

Khamenei also spoke about relations with neighbouring Gulf countries, saying Iran believes in maintaining friendly ties with its neighbours but would continue targeting US military bases in the region.

He added that all US bases in the region should be shut down immediately, warning that attacks would continue if they remain operational.
