The International Monetary Fund has reaffirmed its continued support for Bangladesh during a courtesy meeting between IMF Resident Representative Maxym Kryshko and the newly appointed governor of Bangladesh Bank, Md Mostaqur Rahman, on Wednesday.
According to a spokesperson for the central bank, Deputy Governor Md Habibur Rahman was also present at the meeting.
During the discussion, Kryshko said the IMF looks forward to working closely with the country’s new political government formed after the recent national elections, which were described as free and fair.
Bangladesh is currently under a $5.5 billion loan programme with the IMF. However, the release of the sixth tranche of the funding remains pending, as the global lender had earlier withheld disbursement until an elected government was in place.
The meeting also highlighted the IMF’s willingness to continue cooperation with Bangladesh on economic reforms and financial stability.
