
The fire broke out at around 5:30am as an auxiliary transformer at the substation suddenly caught fire , said Md Nasir Uddin, assistant engineer of the Brahmanbaria Electricity Distribution Division.
No casualties were reported in the incident.
Later, firefighters rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control.
As the transformer was damaged by the fire, power supply to several areas has remained suspended.
Efforts are underway to repair the damaged equipment and restore electricity as soon as possible, he said.
Md Nazmul Alam, senior station officer of Brahmanbaria Fire Service and Civil Defence Station, said firefighters reached the scene soon after receiving information about the fire and brought it under control after about 15 minutes of efforts, reports UNB.
However, the exact cause of the fire could not immediately be determined, he said.
