Christian community in Bangladesh is observing Easter Sunday today with religious fervor, as observed elsewhere in the world.

Easter Sunday is the most important festival in the Christian calendar, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. According to the New Testament, this event occurred on the third day after his crucifixion by the Romans.

On the occasion, leaders of the Protestant Church today exchanged greetings with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at his Cabinet Division office at the Bangladesh Secretariat here.

In Vatican City, Pope Leo XIV is set to mark Easter Sunday for the first time as pontiff, with the Middle East war casting a pall over the most important date in the Christian calendar.

The US-born pope, who has emerged as a leading voice against the war, will hold mass in St Peter's Square from 0830 GMT in front of thousands of faithful, reports BSS.
