The Commonwealth Observer Group has described Bangladesh’s 13th parliamentary election as acceptable, transparent and orderly.

Presenting the group’s interim statement, Chairperson Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said voters had exercised their democratic rights peacefully during the national election and referendum.

“The people of Bangladesh have exercised their democratic rights to seek the fulfilment of their aspirations. We encourage them to be magnanimous and united in their shared democratic future,” he said.

The observer group also urged the Election Commission to undertake a comprehensive post-election review, including consideration of recommendations made by observers, in line with international good practice.

The remarks came as international monitoring missions continued to share their assessments of the electoral process.
