Canada’s Indo-Pacific Trade Representative, Paul Thoppil, is arriving in Bangladesh this evening for a four-day official visit, accompanied by a business delegation.
During the visit, Thoppil will meet key members of Bangladesh’s Interim Government, private sector leaders, and other stakeholders, according to a statement from the Canadian high commission.
The visit aims to reaffirm Canada’s commitment to Bangladesh at a crucial time as the country moves forward with democratic reforms ahead of the next general election.
Thoppil will highlight Canada's Indo-Pacific Strategy and explore opportunities to expand bilateral trade and investment.
He is also scheduled to visit private sector zones that reflect the strong commercial and people-to-people ties between the two countries.
Canada and Bangladesh enjoy a growing trade relationship. Canada exports wheat, pulses, cereals, and machinery to Bangladesh, while importing significant volumes of ready-made garments and textiles.
Both nations are also working to deepen cooperation in emerging sectors such as information technology, aerospace, agriculture, and clean energy.
