Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo on Saturday stressed the importance of strengthening economic ties between Bangladesh and India, saying closer regional cooperation is essential for long-term growth.

He made the remarks at a press conference in Dhaka during the launch of the book Made in Nepal, written by Nepali industrialist and author Binod K Chaudhary.

Mintoo said economic progress depends heavily on trade and cooperation with neighbouring countries, adding that Bangladesh’s future prosperity is closely linked to stronger regional partnerships.

Referring to classical economic thought, he said the path to national prosperity lies in expanding trade relations, especially with immediate neighbours.

The minister said post-election policies should place greater emphasis on cross-border economic cooperation, given its importance for development and regional stability.

He noted that India remains a key economic and geographic partner for Bangladesh, and stronger ties between the two countries would benefit the wider region.

Speaking at the event, Binod K Chaudhary also highlighted the role of geography in shaping economic opportunities and national progress.

He said regional connectivity and cooperation are critical for countries like Nepal and Bangladesh, and noted that broader economic engagement in South Asia often depends on constructive participation from neighbouring states.

The event also focused on Chaudhary’s journey as Nepal’s first billionaire and his experience in entrepreneurship, resilience and business growth in emerging markets.

Business leaders at the programme emphasised the need for greater regional collaboration, trade facilitation and policy support to unlock South Asia’s economic potential.
