Dhaka, 28 June —Bangladesh went past the teams like Australia and India to concede highest number of innings defeat in the Test cricket’s history when they suffered an innings and 78-run defeat to Sri Lanka in Colombo Test today.

Both Australia and India had endured 46 innings defeats in their history. While Australia played 875 matches in 148 years of Tests and India played 590 matches in their 93 years Test history to concede 46 innings defeat, Bangladesh surpassed them in just their 25 years of Test cricket.

The ignominious defeat is Bangladesh's 47th innings defeat in 155 Tests, with Sri Lanka now inflicting nine of those.

Sri Lanka joined South Africa at the top of the charts for handing the most innings defeats to Bangladesh.

Bangladesh won just 23 matches in this period. However, Australia had 420 wins, 219 draws and 234 defeats. India won 181 matches, drew 223 and lost 185 matches.

Only England (66), New Zealand (50) and West Indies (48) are ahead of Bangladesh in terms of losing by an innings.

Sri Lanka (42), South Africa (39), Pakistan (34) and Zimbabwe (30) are behind Bangladesh as far as the innings defeat is concerned. BSS
