ACC Raids Ziaul Ahsan's Jalshiri Residence

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday conducted a raid at the Jalshiri Housing Project residence of former National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC) director general and dismissed Major General Ziaul Ahsan as part of an ongoing investigation.

An ACC team led by Deputy Director Md Hafizul Islam carried out the operation at the residence in Rupganj, Narayanganj, according to ACC spokesperson Tanzir Ahmed.

ACC officials are preparing an inventory of the items found at the house during the raid.

Earlier, Ziaul Ahsan was shown arrested in a case filed over allegations of acquiring assets beyond his known sources of income following an ACC petition.

According to the case statement, Ziaul allegedly accumulated assets worth Tk22.27 crore beyond his known income, deposited US$55,000 above the permitted limit and carried out suspicious transactions involving around Tk120 crore through eight bank accounts.

The case also alleged that, with assistance from his wife Nusrat Jahan, he transferred and converted funds through accounts belonging to different individuals and organisations.

The ACC further accused him of abusing his official position and committing offences under the ACC Act, the Penal Code, the Money Laundering Prevention Act and the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Ziaul Ahsan served as director general of NTMC before being dismissed on 6 August 2024 following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government.

He was arrested on 16 August 2024 from Dhaka's Khilkhet area and later shown arrested in a murder case filed with New Market Police Station over the July uprising. He has remained in jail since then.
