A complaint has been submitted to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) seeking an investigation into alleged misappropriation, irregularities, and corruption in the procurement of vaccines and syringes for measles and other childhood diseases. The petition calls for action against former Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, former Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum, and other officials involved.
The application was filed on Monday (13 April) with the ACC chairman by Supreme Court lawyers Biplob Kumar Das and Barrister Sanaullah Nure Sagar.
The petition states that the recent outbreak of measles across the country, which reportedly led to the deaths of around a hundred children, has deeply alarmed citizens, including legal professionals and public health observers.
It further claims that media reports have highlighted shortages of vaccines for measles and other essential childhood diseases, contributing to the spread of infection and rising child mortality, raising serious concerns about public health management.
The complainants also argue that members of the public and some health experts have, through social media and electronic platforms, held the former chief adviser and health adviser partly responsible for the crisis.
In addition, they note that the current government has described the shortage of measles vaccines and syringes in the Health Ministry as a problem inherited from the previous administration.
The ACC has not yet issued any official comment on the petition.
