An exhibit of the contemporary exhibition on different strokes with photographs at AFD, Dhanmondi.

The 5th edition of Different Strokes, a contemporary art exhibition celebrating diverse artistic expressions, was inaugurated on 17 April 2026 at La Galerie, Alliance Française de Dhaka, Dhanmondi, and will continue to welcome visitors until 22 April 2026.

The opening ceremony was graced by Frank Werner, Director of Goethe-Institut Bangladesh, as Chief Guest, and Najma Akhter, distinguished artist from the Institute of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka, as Guest of Honour. Their presence marked a significant moment for the exhibition, which continues to foster dialogue and engagement within the contemporary art scene.

Bringing together a dynamic group of artists, Different Strokes presents a compelling exploration of contemporary artistic practices in Bangladesh. Curated and convened by artist Alamgir Kabir, the exhibition reflects his ongoing vision of creating an inclusive and vibrant platform for artistic exchange and collaboration.

Featuring a total of forty artworks across diverse mediums, the exhibition highlights a unique collective of artists from different ages, backgrounds, and disciplines. A number of the artists come from non-traditional backgrounds, with practices shaped by instinct, dedication, and personal exploration beyond institutional frameworks.

This diversity is vividly reflected in the wide range of themes and techniques on display. From delicate watercolours capturing the serenity of nature and landscapes, to expressive representations of the human figure, and striking oil paintings rich in depth and texture—the exhibition offers a multifaceted visual experience. The artworks traverse varied subjects, including scenes inspired by the Padma River, boats resting along the ghat, portraits of women, animals in motion, floral studies, as well as both figurative and abstract compositions.

Participating artists include Alamgir Kabir, Bayan Shafique, Farzana Rahman, Mahbuba Begum, Oaniya Tahsin Rahman, Razia Sultana Khan, Tahera Banu (Keya), and Zayn Shafique. Each brings a distinct voice, contributing to a collective narrative that celebrates individuality while embracing a shared spirit of creative inquiry.

Different Strokes invites art enthusiasts, collectors, students, and the wider public to experience this vibrant and thought-provoking exhibition, which captures the evolving essence of contemporary art in Bangladesh.
