A 55-year-old trader has died after being hit by a truck while crossing a road in Uttara area of the city.

The victim, Anowarul Haque, who owned an auto-bike garage, was struck at the Jasimuddin Road U-turn around 9:00pm on Wednesday, according to family and police.

Passers-by rescued him and took him to Kurmitola General Hospital.

As his condition deteriorated, relatives were informed and later transferred him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead at around 3:00am on Thursday.

His nephew, Porosh Mia, said Haque was returning to his home in Konabari, Gazipur, after finishing work when a speeding truck hit him as he was crossing the road.

The driver fled the scene immediately after the crash.

Haque was a resident of Ghoradah village in Sujanagar upazila of Pabna district but had been living with his family in Konabari, Gazipur.

Inspector Mohammad Faruk, in charge of the police camp at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said the body had been kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy and that the matter had been referred to the relevant police station for further investigation, reports BSS.
