A 23-year-old man died after being electrocuted while filming a victory procession celebrating Argentina's FIFA World Cup semifinal win in Netrakona on Wednesday night.

The incident occurred in the Shaheed Minar area of the district town.

The deceased was identified as Dipta Chowdhury, son of Badal Chowdhury of the Malni area, according to Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Khayer of Netrakona Model Police Station.

Police said that after the Argentina-England semifinal, Dipta climbed onto the rooftop of a three-storey building to record the victory procession. During the filming, he accidentally came into contact with a live electric wire, was electrocuted and fell from the roof.

Local residents rescued him and rushed him to Netrakona District Sadar Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

The OC said the body would be handed over to the family after the completion of the necessary legal procedures.
