A couple was killed on Tuesday night in a road accident in Daulatpur Raligat area on Khulna-Dhaka highway of the district.

The deceased were identified as Tanvir Hasan Sheikh, 31, and his wife Lamia Begum, 28.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daulatpur Police Station Md Shafiqul Islam said the accident occurred last night when a Dhaka-bound passenger bus (Royal Paribahan), coming from Fultala upazila, collided head on with a motorcycle in the area, leaving motorcycle rider Tanvir and his wife critically injured on the street.

The wounded were rushed to Khulna Medical College and Hospital (KMCH) where the on-duty doctor declared them dead.

Tanvir, son of Mohiuddin Sheikh, of Bhadgati area under Batiaghata upazila, was coming home along with his wife riding by a motorcycle, the OC said.

"Locals obstructed the bus from the spot just after the accident and handed it over to the police," he said, adding that the bus driver managed to flee the scene, reports BSS.

A case was filed in this connection, the OC concluded.
