An Iraqi armed group has claimed it is offering a $10 million reward to anyone who kills U.S. President Donald Trump, according to a statement issued by the group on Thursday.

The group, identifying itself as the Iraqi Islamic Resistance, said the reward had been raised through contributions from its members and supporters.

According to the statement, the bounty would be awarded to anyone who carries out the killing or to any individual, group or organisation that facilitates or directs the reward toward such an act.

The group accused Trump of responsibility for the deaths of civilians and scientists and used inflammatory rhetoric, vowing continued retaliation.

The statement did not provide evidence that the reward has been formally established or indicate any operational plans.

The announcement comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East as regional conflicts continue to intensify.
