Heavy Rain Likely Across Bangladesh for Next Four Days

Bangladesh is likely to experience widespread rainfall over the next four days as the monsoon remains fairly active across the country, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department's (BMD) latest 120-hour forecast issued at 9:00am on Wednesday.

The BMD said light to moderate rain or thundershowers, accompanied by temporary gusty winds, are expected at most places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions from August 5 to August 8.

Moderately heavy to heavy rainfall is also forecast in different parts of the country during the period.

According to the forecast, both day and night temperatures are likely to fall slightly during the first two days. Temperatures are expected to remain almost unchanged on August 7 before rising slightly on August 8 and August 9.

On the fifth day, rainfall activity is expected to ease, with showers likely at many places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at a few places in Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions. However, isolated heavy rainfall may still occur.

Meteorologists said the current weather is being influenced by the monsoon trough stretching from Rajasthan through northern Bangladesh to Assam, with an associated trough extending into the North Bay. The monsoon remains fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate over the North Bay.

During the 24 hours ending at 6:00am on Wednesday, notable rainfall was recorded at several stations, including 94 mm in Srimangal, 88 mm in Sylhet, 83 mm in Chandpur, 80 mm in Bandarban, 73 mm in Tetulia, 72 mm in Hatiya, 71 mm in Netrokona and 67 mm in Cox's Bazar.

The BMD said rainfall is likely to decrease after the next four days, although weather conditions will continue to be monitored closely.
