14 Killed In Russian Overnight Strikes On Kyiv

At least 14 people were killed and 27 others injured after Russian strikes hit areas around Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, overnight, according to emergency service officials.

Air raid alerts remained in effect for more than an hour as explosions rocked the city of around three million residents. The Kyiv military administration said seven locations were struck during the attack, which began shortly after midnight.

Authorities said one person was killed and 24 others were injured within Kyiv city, while buildings sustained damage in several districts.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said rescuers pulled two people alive from the rubble of a warehouse near the city centre that was destroyed in the attack. He warned that more people could still be trapped beneath the debris as search and rescue operations continued.

Among the injured was an ambulance driver, while four people remained in critical condition.

Russia's Defence Ministry said the strikes targeted logistics hubs and supply centres in Kyiv and surrounding areas, claiming they were being used for military purposes.

Klitschko said the attacks triggered fires at warehouses and storage facilities. He also clarified that earlier reports of a fire at a 20-storey apartment building were incorrect.

A large fire also broke out on the outskirts of Kyiv, while debris from a missile landed near a residential building.

The Kyiv military administration reported an ammonia leak caused by the attack, with emergency teams working to contain the situation.

Witnesses reported hearing multiple explosions across the capital as Ukrainian air defence systems responded to the assault.

Russia has intensified attacks on Kyiv in recent weeks. Meanwhile, Ukraine said it struck a logistics hub belonging to a major Russian online retailer, continuing its campaign against Russian supply infrastructure.

Reuters could not independently verify the battlefield claims. Both Russia and Ukraine continue to deny deliberately targeting civilians during the war, which began with Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
