Vatara gas explosion: Third injured victim dies

Dhaka, July 26 - The last injured victim of the gas explosion caused by a gas line leak at a house in the Natun Bazar area under Vatara Police Station of the capital died on Saturday night, a day after her husband and niece passed away from injuries sustained in the incident.

The deceased was identified as Fahima, 21. She died around 9:45pm while receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Her husband Md Shaheen, 24, and their eight-year-old niece Hafsa died earlier from injuries they suffered in the same incident. With this, all the burn victims succumbed to their injuries.

Resident Surgeon of the institute Dr Shawon Bin Rahman said the three victims were brought to the burn institute on July 21 after they sustained burn injuries in the explosion triggered by a gas line leak.

He said Fahima had suffered 45 percent burns and succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment in the ICU.

Hafsa died around 12:00am and Shaheen passed away around 6:00am on Friday, in a span of six hours.

The explosion occurred in the house on the 300-Foot Road in the Natun Bazar area in the early hours of July 21. The injured were rescued and taken to the burn institute. - UNB
