Motorists can now pay tolls automatically through their bKash accounts at 14 major bridge toll plazas across the country, a move aimed at making road travel smoother and reducing congestion at toll booths.

The automatic toll collection system, introduced by the Roads and Highways Department, allows vehicles to pass through toll plazas without stopping. After registering their vehicles in the bKash app, toll charges are deducted automatically whenever the vehicle crosses any of the designated toll points.

Under the system, an RFID sticker is attached to the vehicle’s windshield. When the vehicle passes through a toll plaza, the sticker is scanned and the applicable toll is automatically deducted from the user’s bKash account, enabling uninterrupted movement through the toll point.

The toll will still be deducted even if the account holder is not inside the vehicle at the time of crossing. The system also works if mobile internet is unavailable during the crossing. Once the payment is processed, the customer receives a notification on the registered mobile number.

The bridges and toll points where the automatic payment facility has been introduced include Shahid Mayez Uddin Bridge, Meghna-Gomoti Bridge (Meghna and Gomoti toll plazas), 3rd Shitolokkha Bridge, Sayed Nazrul Islam Bridge, Charsindur Toll Plaza in Narsingdi, Madhumati Bridge, Karnaphuli Bridge, Khan Jahan Ali Bridge, Lalon Shah Bridge, Hatikamrul–Banpara New Road in Natore, Hazrat Shah Paran Bridge, Lebukhali Bridge and the 8th Bangladesh–China Friendship Bridge.

Vehicle registration in the bKash app is simple. Users need to select the “Toll” option on the home screen, click on “Register a Vehicle,” and provide the required information. The process is completed after entering the bKash PIN, and users can cancel the registration at any time through the app.
