Walton Unveils Bangladesh’s Largest Floating Solar Plant
In line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Walton, the country’s leading technology manufacturer, has installed Bangladesh’s largest floating solar power plant with a capacity of one megawatt at its headquarters in Chandra, Gazipur.
The project marks a significant step in promoting renewable energy and sustainability within the nation’s industrial sector.
Mostafizur Rahman Razu, head of Walton’s Environment, Health and Safety Department, said the floating solar plant sets a benchmark for sustainable industrial development.
He added that the initiative not only generates clean electricity but also supports fish farming, conserves land, reduces water evaporation, and protects the environment.
After meeting its own electricity needs, Walton supplies surplus power to the national grid through the net metering system.
Walton noted that its sustainability efforts have helped cut 911,823 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions and reduced its overall carbon footprint by 10 percent, serving as a model for eco-friendly industrial practices in Bangladesh.
