Remittance inflow hits $1.18b in 12 days of October

Bangladesh received US$1.18 billion in remittances in the first 12 days of October, reflecting a strong inflow of funds from expatriate workers.

According to the latest update from Bangladesh Bank, remittance inflow grew by 18.9 percent compared to the same period last year, underscoring the continued confidence of Bangladeshi migrants in sending money home through official channels.

From July to 12 October of the current fiscal year (FY2025–26), the country has received a total of $8.78 billion in remittances. During the same period last year, the figure stood at $7.53 billion.

Expatriates sent $2.48 billion in July, $2.42 billion in August, and $2.68 billion in September — marking one of the strongest quarterly remittance performances in recent years.

In the last fiscal year (FY2024–25), Bangladesh recorded its highest-ever annual remittance inflow of $30.33 billion, up 27 percent from $23.74 billion in FY2023–24.

Economists say the consistent growth in remittance inflows will help ease pressure on foreign exchange reserves, support import payments, and stabilise the country’s overall economic position amid global uncertainties.
