Patuakhali: In the 13th National Parliament Election, the candidates of BNP, Islamic Movement, 10-party alliance and Ganadhikar Parishad are busy with last-minute campaigning in the 114, Patuakhali-4 (Kalapara-Rangabali) constituency. Since the political activities of Awami League are banned and the party is not participating in the 13th National Parliament Election, the candidates of BNP, Islamic Movement and Jamaat-led 10-party alliance are desperate to capture this seat, which is known as a stronghold of Awami League. In addition, the participation of the Ganadhikar Parishad candidate has added an additional dimension to the voting equation.

According to the election office sources, there are 214,481 voters in 12 unions and 2 municipal assemblies of Kalapara upazila. There are 94,864 voters in 5 unions of Rangabali Upazila, out of which 47,661 are male voters and 47,203 are female voters.

BNP's nominated candidate, ABM Mosharraf Hossain, the party's central executive committee's training secretary, said, "If I am elected by the votes of the voters', I will implement a large development plan centered on Payra Port and the tourist center Kuakata. I will not let the people of coastal towns and the suffering of roads in 12 unions and 2 municipalities of Kalapara and 5 unions of Rangabali remain neglected."

Islami Andolan Bangladesh nominated candidate Professor Mostafizur Rahman said, "I am not voting for personal or party interests, but to establish Islamic ideals, good governance and people's rights. People want change, I want to be the representative of that change."

Dr. Zahir Uddin Ahmed is a former chairman of Rangabali Upazila Parishad and once served as an advisor to the Awami League. He is working on organizational communication and voter unity at the grassroots level.

In this constituency, Md. Rabiul Hasan (Trak), a higher council member of the Ganadhikar parishad, is giving a message of independent politics and reforms. According to political analysts, even if he does not have a direct impact on the main fight, he can play a role in dividing the votes.

Local voters said that the late Abdur Razzak Khan of the Jatiya Party became MP in the Patuakhali-4 constituency in the third parliamentary elections on May 7, 1986 and in the fourth parliamentary elections on May 3, 1988. Anwar-ul-Islam of the Awami League was elected in the fifth parliamentary elections on February 27, 1991. Since then, the seat has been lost to the Jatiya Party. Only on February 15, 1996, in the controversial sixth parliamentary elections without an opposition party, Mostafizur Rahman of the BNP was elected as a goal in an empty field. On June 12, 1996, Awami League's Anwar-ul-Islam was elected for the second time in the seventh parliamentary election and regained the seat. Then, on October 1, 2001, Awami League's Mahbubur Rahman won the eighth national election. On December 29, 2008, Mahbubur Rahman was elected MP for the second time in the ninth parliamentary election and became the State Minister for Water Resources. On January 5, 2014, Mahbubur Rahman became an MP for the third time unopposed in the tenth parliamentary election.

It was learned from talking to several voters that they want a leader who will not talk about party politics or extortion, but rather about people's rights. - Gofran Palash
