Islami Andolan on Friday announced that it will contest the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election independently, without entering into any alliance with other political parties.
The decision was disclosed by the party’s Senior Joint Secretary General and spokesperson, Gazi Ataur Rahman, at a press conference held in the afternoon at the party’s central office in Purana Paltan, Dhaka.
Speaking at the briefing, Ataur Rahman said that following the cancellation of nomination papers of two candidates, Islami Andolan now has valid candidates actively campaigning in 268 constituencies across the country.
He emphasised that all nominated candidates will remain in the electoral race and that none will withdraw their nominations under any circumstances.
Ataur Rahman also said the party would extend support in the remaining 32 constituencies. However, he added that decisions on which candidates or political parties will receive that support would be announced at a later stage.
