He said, "The democracy that was established in Bangladesh by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and cherished by 'Deshnetri' Begum Khaleda Zia, is now being brought back by Tarique Rahman. The people of the country are ready to welcome him."
Mirza Abbas made the remarks while addressing a preparatory meeting for welcoming Tarique Rahman held at the Sadeque Hossain Khoka Community Center in Gopibagh in the city, reports BSS.
He said, "Those who do not wish well for the country and do not love the country look like human beings but are devils in human form. They opposed Pakistan in '47 and opposed Bangladesh in '71; they do not want peace in the country. Although they remained quiet for some time, their claws and poisonous fangs are emerging again. Their activities are very systematic."
Stating that undemocratic forces cannot survive against democracy, the senior BNP leader warned, "Those who are conspiring, be careful. Who are the people who burnt down institutions like Prothom Alo and Daily Star? They are enemies of the nation. They must be stopped."
"We do not practice the politics of murder, mob violence, and enforced disappearance. However, this does not mean we will sit idly. People achieved the rights of the July Uprising with blood. There is an attempt to snatch those rights away. A cry of helplessness is heard everywhere in the country today. Just as Shaheed Zia dismantled Baksal and brought back democracy, and just as Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman have stood by the people, the BNP will stand by you this time as well. If necessary, those who destabilize the country will be resisted," added Mirza Abbas.
