Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman.
The trial of ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and three others began with the prosecution’s opening statements, as they face charges related to crimes against humanity during the July mass uprising. Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam delivered the prosecution's remarks.
Before the session started, Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman made a brief statement before the tribunal. He described the day as historic and accused Sheikh Hasina of being the world’s greatest liar and dictator. He added that anyone seeking a "PhD in lying" should learn from her and claimed that if a global association of dictators existed, she would be its president.
The Attorney General called for the harshest punishment for Hasina and her alleged accomplices for the sake of Bangladesh’s future and coming generations. He also reminded the court of the typical fate that history has reserved for dictators.
The hearing opened at 11:30 AM on Sunday, August 3, at the International Crimes Tribunal-1, chaired by a three-member bench led by Justice Md. Golam Mortuja Majumder. The proceedings are being streamed live.
