BNP Secretary General and Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said the government has already begun implementing its election pledges within three months of assuming office.

Speaking at a public reception organised by Ruhia Upazila BNP at the Ruhia High School grounds here, he said the declaration of Ruhia and Bhulli as full-fledged upazilas is part of the government's commitment to regional development.

Mirza Fakhrul said the government has taken initiatives to establish Thakurgaon University, Thakurgaon Medical College and an Engineering College, reopen the district airport and set up an Export Processing Zone (EPZ) to accelerate the area's socio-economic development.

The minister also said Bangladesh's election as president of the United Nations General Assembly for the next session has brought honour to the country on the global stage.

Earlier, he inaugurated the Ruhia Union Parishad office as the temporary office of the newly declared Ruhia Upazila Parishad.

Mirza Fakhrul also paid tribute to leaders from different political backgrounds for their contributions to the development of the area.

District BNP President Mirza Faisal Amin, General Secretary Poygam Ali and Ruhia Upazila BNP President Abdul Jabbar, among others, addressed the function.

At the function, Mirza Fakhrul was accorded a floral reception by local residents and representatives of various organisations, reports BSS.
