RSF places 10-point proposal to improve road safety
The Road Safety Foundation (RSF) has outlined 10 recommendations aimed at improving road safety across Bangladesh.
The proposals, revealed in a press release signed by RSF Executive Director Saidur Rahman, emphasize both infrastructural development and regulatory enforcement.
Among the key suggestions are the development of skilled drivers, expansion of the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA)'s capacity, construction of road dividers on highways and building separate service roads for slow-moving vehicles.
Effective enforcement of the Road Transport Act-2018 was highlighted as essential. The organization stressed the need to define the salaries and working hours of drivers to reduce fatigue-related incidents and improve overall driving conditions.
Besides, the RSF called for stricter application of traffic laws to protect transport workers, passengers and pedestrians alike.
It also suggested reducing pressure on roads by investing in the renovation of railways and waterways.
The Road Safety Foundation identified defective vehicles, reckless speeding, incompetent and physically and mentally ill drivers, poor traffic management and extortion as the main causes of accidents, reports BSS.
