Complaints Filed at ICT Against Hamid, Shahabuddin

Two organisations have submitted separate complaints to the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) against former presidents Abdul Hamid and Mohammed Shahabuddin, alleging their complicity in crimes committed during the Awami League's rule.

ICT Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam confirmed that two complaints had been submitted against the former presidents but said he had not yet formally received them.

He said that after receiving and reviewing the complaints, they would be forwarded to the ICT's investigation agency for further scrutiny.

The Bangladesh Azad Party submitted one of the complaints, accusing the two former heads of state of passively supporting the Awami League government during its 15 years in power.

The complaint alleges that the former presidents bear responsibility for failing to prevent or oppose alleged crimes committed during the period, including enforced disappearances, state-backed killings and other human rights violations.

Speaking to reporters, Bangladesh Azad Party Chief Organiser Munshi Borhan Mahmud claimed the two former presidents could not evade responsibility for the alleged crimes.
