Iran has assured continued support for the safe passage of Bangladeshi vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, amid heightened regional tensions.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Embassy of Iran in Dhaka said it remains committed to facilitating maritime transit and has also assisted in the evacuation of 186 Bangladeshi nationals from Iran via Azerbaijan.
The embassy urged all parties to avoid actions or statements that could create misunderstandings and called for maintaining mutual respect in line with the longstanding ties between the two countries.
Reaffirming its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, Iran emphasised its policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of other nations and expressed interest in expanding cooperation across areas of mutual interest.
The statement also welcomed recent diplomatic engagement between Bangladesh and Iran, including a meeting between Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman and Iran’s deputy foreign minister on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.
Iran appreciated Bangladesh’s “balanced and constructive” stance on promoting peace and stability in the Middle East through dialogue and diplomacy.
The embassy also acknowledged Bangladesh’s gestures of support, including condolence messages, parliamentary recognition, and the provision of emergency medical assistance through the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society.
Expressing sympathy, Iran conveyed condolences over the loss of Bangladeshi nationals affected by the ongoing conflict and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
The statement highlighted the importance of continued cooperation and dialogue to further strengthen the friendly relations between the two countries.
