Jeddah, 04-04-2026 - The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha, sent identical letters to several international parties and institutions, including Mr. António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations; Ms. Kaia Callas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy; Ms. Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross; and Mr. Volker Türk, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, regarding the rejection and condemnation of the Israeli Knesset's passage of the law to execute Palestinian prisoners in Israeli occupation prisons.

The Secretary-General considered that this legislation constitutes a dangerous precedent by legalizing murder, terrorism, and political execution, an extension of the systematic Israeli violations in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, a direct assault on the values of justice and human dignity, and a flagrant violation of international law, including international humanitarian law and international human rights law.

The Secretary-General pointed out that the adoption of this law coincides with the seriousness of the conditions of Palestinian prisoners as a result of Israeli violations and crimes documented in the report of the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Ms. Francesca Albanese, including humiliation, physical and psychological torture, inhuman treatment, sexual violence, starvation, and administrative detention, which aim to try to strip Palestinians of their freedom, dignity, identity and humanity; calling on all concerned parties and institutions, their various agencies and member states to assume their responsibilities to take the necessary measures and procedures. – OIC News
