State Minister for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Md Nurul Hoque today said the government will introduce an "e-Health Card" as part of its commitment to ensuring healthcare for all under its "health for all" vision.

He made the remarks after visiting Patuakhali Medical College Hospital on his first visit as the chairman of the hospital's management committee.

The state minister said the government is working to strengthen healthcare services by improving treatment facilities and increasing manpower at divisional, district, upazila, and medical college levels, with the aim of making healthcare more accessible to people at the grassroots.

He further said the planned e-Health Card system will help modernize and integrate health services nationwide, ensuring better coordination and access to patient health information.

Commenting on the condition of the hospital, Nurul said the facility is operating under severe pressure with limited infrastructure and inadequate manpower.

Although it is a 250-bed hospital, it is currently serving around 800 to 900 patients daily, he said, adding that the excessive patient load has resulted in overcrowding, with many patients forced to stay in corridors and on floors, including children and elderly patients.

He said an initiative will be taken to establish a fully equipped 500-bed hospital for Patuakhali Medical College to improve healthcare services in the region.

Patuakhali Civil Surgeon Khaledur Rahman Mia, Superintendent of Police Md Abu Yusuf, Hospital Superintendent Dilruba Yasmin Rupa, and senior officials from various government departments were present during the visit, reports BSS.
