Rice import has declined through Hili Land Port in Dinajpur due to instable dollar market.

Rice import has declined through Hili Land Port in Dinajpur due to instable dollar market.
Traders are not now showing any interest in bringing the food staple from the international market.  The importers said they will import rice if the price of rice in India decreases and the Bangladesh government reduces duty.
To keep the price of rice stable in the country’s market, the government gave a permission on July 23 to import rice from India through Hili Port. A total of 10 importers got the permission to import 30 thousand metric tons of rice. However, due to the high price of rice in the Indian market and instable dollar market in the country, importers are less interested in importing rice.
Shahidul Islam, a rice importer at Hili Port, said that if the government removes or reduces the duty on rice import, then they will import.
According to Hili Customs sources, one thousand 114 metric tons of rice was imported through this port in the last one week.
