The water level of all the rivers including Teesta, Dharla, Brahmaputra and Dudhkumar in Kurigram flowing through the district has increased due to the heavy rain and the onrush water from the upstream.
The low-lying areas in the river basins have been inundated as a result of rising water, affecting over three thousand families in Sadar and Ulipur upazilas of the Kurigram district.
Various vegetable fields in these areas have been submerged.
Abdullah Al Mamun, executive engineer of Kurigram Water Development Board, said that all the rivers flowing through the district continue to rise but they are still flowing below the danger limit. However, on June 22 and 23, the water of these rivers may exceed the danger level.
Kurigram Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saidul Arif said that preparations have been taken to deal with floods from the district administration. If the people of Char areas are affected by floods, they will be brought to a safe shelter. Pure water and relief will also be ensured for them.
