The government will take stern action against those responsible for the recent attack on forest officials, said Environment, Forest and Climate Change Secretary Farhina Ahmed on Saturday.

Condemning the attack as “outrageous and unacceptable,” she said such incidents will not be tolerated, especially when officials are carrying out their duties to protect public resources.

Farhina made the remarks while visiting injured Beat Officer Mohidur Rahman Joy at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital. She inquired about his condition and instructed hospital authorities to provide all necessary medical care.

She said a group of miscreants, attempting to grab forest land, launched the attack on field-level forest officials. “It is our collective responsibility to ensure the safety of those who protect the environment,” she added.

She urged law enforcement agencies to identify and take swift action against those involved.

Joint Secretary (Forest) Shamima Begum, Chief Conservator of Forests Md Amir Hosain Chowdhury, and other senior officials were also present during the hospital visit.

Beat Officer Mohidur Rahman and four other forest staff were injured on Friday when they tried to stop an illegal land grab at the Savar Sub-Beat area in Chhoto Kaliakoir, Savar.
