Govt to Bring Coaching Centres Under Legal Framework

In Dhaka, the German parliamentary delegation met Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo.

Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon has said that coaching centres will be brought under a formal legal framework, stressing that such institutions cannot continue operating without regulation.

Speaking at a meeting with centre secretaries of the Sylhet division ahead of the upcoming SSC and equivalent examinations on Tuesday, he said that if educational institutions abroad are subject to legal requirements, coaching centres within the country must also come under proper oversight.

The minister emphasised the need to reduce students’ dependence on private coaching by strengthening academic support within schools. He urged head teachers to identify weaker students in specific subjects and arrange remedial support through in-house initiatives.

He also suggested that schools could collect a small additional fee to provide honorariums for teachers, which would help discourage students from seeking external coaching.

Addressing the issue of online classes, the minister said he is personally not in favour of fully online education. However, he noted that adapting to digital learning is unavoidable in the current global context.

While acknowledging that many stakeholders oppose online education, he said the world is moving towards digital systems and Bangladesh must keep pace with that shift.

He also outlined plans for a future hybrid education model that would combine classroom teaching with online learning from home, saying such an approach could help ensure continuity in students’ education.
