Gas supply to national grid returns to normal
Gas supply to the national grid has returned to normal after the successful resumption of liquefied natural gas (LNG) transfer to the floating terminal at Moheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar.
“Gas supply returned to normal around 7:00am today after the LNG cargo successfully resumed gas transfer,” Petrobangla Director (Operations and Mines) Engineer Md Shoyeb told BSS here today.
He said that around 2pm, total gas supply to the national grid rose to 2,525 mmcfd. Domestic sources supplied 1,607 mmcfd, while RLNG contributed 918 mmcfd. The supply is expected to increase further.
“Gas supply to both industrial and residential sectors has increased. Earlier, gas supply had temporarily been disrupted due to adverse weather conditions,” Shoyeb said.
The LNG transfer operation from cargo to Moheshkhali floating terminal had been disrupted yesterday due to adverse weather in the Bay of Bengal. As a result, RLNG supply declined, causing a temporary reduction in overall gas supply to the national grid compared with normal levels.
Petrobangla yesterday said that once weather conditions in the Bay of Bengal improved, LNG transfer operations would resume as soon as possible and the gas supply situation would return to normal, reports BSS.
