The Chief Adviser’s Office (CAO) has formally requested the Election Commission (EC) to complete all preparations for holding the national elections before the start of Ramadan in February 2026.

In a letter sent today to the EC’s senior secretary, M Siraz Uddin Miah, Principal Secretary to the Chief Adviser, urged the Commission to take all necessary steps to ensure a free, fair, peaceful, and festive election within the specified timeframe.

The move follows Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus’s address to the nation on Tuesday, marking the July Uprising Day, in which he announced plans to write to the EC seeking elections before Ramadan next year.

The letter highlighted the Chief Adviser’s call for immediate preparations and institutional arrangements, stressing that the polls should be remembered as a day of joy and celebration — particularly as citizens have been unable to vote in the past 15 years.

Prof Yunus expressed hope that the election would be marked by peace, high voter turnout, cordiality, and sincerity. The letter also underscored the importance of using appropriate technology and confirmed the government’s full cooperation to ensure the election meets public expectations.
