Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 2.9 lakh Yaba tablets and detained two alleged drug traffickers in separate operations along the Shah Porir Dwip and Nazirpara borders in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday.

According to BGB, members of the Shah Porir Dwip Border Outpost (BOP) under Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB) conducted a special operation on the Naf River at around 1:45am, acting on intelligence inputs.

Using technical surveillance, they detected a suspicious boat approaching from the Myanmar border. Shortly afterwards, a man was spotted attempting to enter Bangladesh by swimming with two sacks. Later, he was detained by a BGB naval patrol team.

A search of the sacks led to the recovery of 1.2 lakh Yaba tablets.

The detainee, identified as Jagir Hossain, 28, was later handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station along with the seized drugs after a case was filed.

Separately around 11am, members of the Nazirpara BOP carried out a raid in the Shafi Chairman's fish enclosure area near the Alugol border post.

During the operation, BGB members spotted three men disguised as fishermen entering Bangladesh after allegedly receiving a consignment of Yaba from Myanmar.

When challenged, the suspects attempted to flee. BGB personnel chased and detained Azizul Haque, 38, while the rest managed to flee.

Later, they recovered 1.7 lakh Yaba tablets concealed in a specially made compartment.

Commanding Officer of Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB) Lt Col Md Hanifur Rahman Bhuiyan said the force remains vigilant in preventing drug trafficking, smuggling and other cross-border crimes, reports UNB.
