District Detective Branch (DB) of Police arrested a drug dealer with 1,000 yaba tablets during a raid in the Kakanhat Bazar area of Godagari Upazila in Rajshahi.

He was arrested on the paved road in front of the Kakanhat Food Warehouse late Friday night. The arrested individual is Shariful Islam Sharif, 30.

He is the son of the late Mokbul Hossain from Balurtungi village in Shibganj Upazila, Chapainawabganj district.

Police said that based on a tip-off, a DB police team led by SI Mehedi Hasan of Rajshahi District DB, along with his force, was conducting an anti-drug operation in and around Safina Park at around 12:40 AM.

Based on further information, the team later carried out an operation in the Kakanhat Bazar area.

During the operation, sensing the presence of police, Shariful tried to flee but was detained at 1:20 AM. Upon searching his body, 1,000 yaba tablets kept in a white polythene bag were recovered from the front right pocket of his pants, reports BSS.
